Behind The Pen

A writer of stories of second chances and redemption for broken and flawed characters.

STEPHEN MELLOR was born in Buchanan, Liberia, grew up in Yorkshire and lives in Sheffield with his wife, and Moose, the excitable greyhound.

His first novel, From Where We Threw Dogs, fearlessly addresses the toxicity within male grief, and is available now.

His first novella, Pyre, a story of isolation and longing, was shortlisted for the Reflex Press 2022 Novella Award, and is available now. It is also a screenplay.

His latest work, The Day Lemmy Loved Johnny The Most, is a reimagining, for a near future authoritarian world, of the story of Peter and Jesus and is available now.

His screenplay, Dimitri’s Garden, has won numerous international awards and recognition and joins the screenplays, Pyre, and The Honeymooners.

He is the creator and co-host of Prompety Prompt, the podcast for readers, writers and listeners.

Away from writing there is always Sheffield Wednesday and still playing the beautiful game and aching for days after. And singing along, although never in tune, with guitar bands. Loves the Romans and small comedy clubs, but the two things aren't connected.

And in case you want to know what he sounds like… this is his first interview as a writer and this is Prompety Prompt.
